Lord Halsbury - Precedent - London Tramways
In London Tramways, Lord Halsbury acknowledges that case of individual hardship may result from HOL being bound by its own decisions. However the need for clear general principles over-rides the hardship caused in individual instances.

Benditt - Doctrine of precedent.
Benditt argues that if the rule of precedent is simply a rule established by judges, then there should be no difficulty with the idea that judges may change it.

Lord Dennings - Judicial Precedent
A rule as to precedent (which any court lays down for itself) is not a rule of law at all. It is simply a rule of practice or usage laid down by the court itself for its own guidance and, as such, the successors of that court can alter that practice or amend it or set up other guidelines. Just as the HL did in 1966.

Emund Davies LJ - Law
R v Church, Edmund Davies LJ: "the unlawful act must be such as all sober and reasonable people would inevitably recognise must subject the other person to, at least the risk of some harm resulting therefrom, albeit not serious harm"
