100+ wpm without using touch typing possible?

I average at about 45+ wpm without touch typing. Do you think I can improve without learning or do I absolutely need to learn to improve my speed? I'm currently seeing improvements on "10fastfingers.com/t…". I can reach about 60+ on that test but don't know if that is my limit without learning touch typing.

You can't. If your gave 45+ wpm for the last half of year, real improvement should be +10-15% Small neuron network works faster and clearly. You need training more patterns without touch typing. That's the point.

What is touch typing?

You can't hit 100+ without touch typing. Take some time to slow down and learn to type without looking at the keys at all. Then you can worry about speed. But first, make touch typing your priority.

Thanks. I think I hit my limit at 60+. I hit about 10 wpm with my limited experience with touch typing so it's definitely going to be a long time to reach my goal.

Yes it is possible. I know of someone with an injured hand that does it. But it takes years of typing, not just practice, but actual typing everyday as part of work. However, I don't think I could ever do it. I touch type and barely average above a hundred.

When you don't know something, USE GOOGLE, trust me, IT WORKS.

For the lazies:
Touch typing is typing without looking at the keyboard using muscle memory - the proper method uses 9 fingers.

I am of old school, and thats the way we were taught, never called it touch typing but it was finger placement and memory... yes enables you to type 60+ words easily. the placement is on the asdf (right hand) :lkj (right hand) memorize those first...

Again. Don't spend time to train brain in the long way. 100 wps may be possible (if you 16-20 years old), but useless skill, if your attention will be overcharged. Retraining of a neuron network always costs more, and result will be worst.

Touch typing is when you type using all fingers without looking.

100 wpm is probably possible without touch typing, but why would you not want to learn touch typing? It's infinitely more useful than having to watch your keyboard to type.

Yeah I would say it's possible but difficult to get 100wpm+ without touch typing. However as geoff points out you get many more benefits from touch typing than just potential speed.
-Error check as you type
-Skim ahead and plan
-Better posture; not bending your neck to look down
-Utilise more fingers and thus less overall strain on your hands; many 'hunt and peck' typists will use only 2-6 fingers.
Stick with it the benefits are definitely worth the 'attention cost'.

Okay, thank you.
