Another interesting source to check out is website AlileFingers. Yeah. Some sites actually show which finger to use for every key. I used Tipp10 for finger placement when I retrained myself:
https://www.tipp10.com/en/auth/register/ (free)
thetypingcat.com works also.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, use opposite shift keys for capital letters. [LSHIFT] for Y and [RSHIFT} for T. This is difficult to retrain later so do it now!

Basically, the standard is 8 fingers on keyboard. For QWERTY: Left pinkies on A and ; and index fingers on F and J.
these fingers only move up and left or down and right for all keys. For the middle, TGB are always left index, and YHN are always right index.
For numbers, style varies, but both hands moving up to 1234 and 7890 is probably best.

Use your dominant thumb or both for the spacebar.

Heather,
There should be raised dots or marks on letters "F" and "J", I first touch those keys by feeling first to locate proper hand position.
