I actually disagree with the quote as well. I'm an avid user of the semicolon. I was amused by the quote and, as always, impressed by Vonnegut's writing style

I disagree; I first started using semicolons at about the same time I learned how to use other forms of punctuation, and I definitely hadn't been to college.
