That's happening to me too, except it's not only the text, it's the entire website that's really slow. When I click on anything on here it takes 30 seconds to a minute before the page finally loads. Seems like a server side issue because I've tried it on multiple different networks and it still take a really long time to load no matter what :(

Good news is, I don't think that the clock running actually poses an issue for your typing speed, as I haven't gotten any "late start" prompts. It is quite annoying, but thankfully not detrimental to speeds.

Same keeps happening to me

Seems worse today although I have noticed it slowing progressively from about 3 days out. As long as you don't press any typeable keys it won't negate your WPM. Sure the timer ticks but it won't count towards your WPM taking a hit when it finally loads in. During this feel free to refresh/close browser without it counting if you get tired of it failing to load. My guess is also server side on their part.

I have noticed that while it may take longer to load a new quote that if you type anything by accident or just from impatience that then the timer takes into effect. When I type a letter while it loads, then the timer starts accounting and 15 seconds later it'll show your WPM starting from 0 when you start typing the quote. It does go higher though that loading time and having pressed a key accounts. (In this case just hit ESC and hope for another to load I guess, and be patient).

Sorry, bots were tearing up the site. We've blocked several and will continue to monitor. Thank you for the heads up.

Oh sweet! I figured there's probably a DoS attack going on. The server is still sometimes inaccessible, but I think it's gotten way better over the last few days. Hope you'll be able to block all those malignant bots soon!

really hope you can get the website working in order.

when I first saw that the website was slow, I thought it had to do something with the latency being slow with the server... so I did ping keyhero.com, and got around 128ms. so I was like, (maybe that?) lol
but, I guess the problem was more complicated.

I feel like this website should have captcha since, it would benefit a tiny bit. (I know how captchas are, they're annoying- but it's essential for the website either way...) and if I were to implement it, I would go for "https://mcaptcha.or…" since they're privacy friendly, unlike google (and cloudflare perhaps?) :P (however, I don't know how effective it is to preventing bots... but atleast there would be a captcha rather than none. better than nothing.)

oh well, just thought that I would say it since it's annoying to go to the website and then I'll be waiting for a while for a request to load.

The lag is very unhelpful, I waited for over 5 minutes, not knowing what was going on. I wouldn't mind using a captcha to enter the site.

I've been having an issue this evening where I'd be typing out the text, and the typing section...the little box underneath the text...would de-select itself, causing me to type without realising that the text is no longer registering. It happened twice as I've been typing this message as well.
