Negative ratings increasing scores???

Why is it that often, when I rate something negatively, its rating goes up?
I just rated a quote that was at 3.8. When I gave it a negative rating, it went up to 4.
I have seen this quite a number of times.

The "rating" class seems to be a tad unorthodox

I have also seen a score go to 5 stars when I gave it a positive rating, where before it was 4 and change.
I conclude that the rating system must be using a rolling average, just like one's WPM rating.

Could be that others have rated the quote just before you - particularly if you're taking time to review to quote properly?

Very weird !! I probably try to find really bad ones and see what would happen ~~~
