| Triple fracture of the spine has stopped me working which should not have stopped me working !! Ok, So I am unable to walk about like other folks, however, I have been in IT since 1976 and majority of that work has been done, sitting at a keyboard for goodness sake. Army, 3 different Police forces Mitsubishi and then a couple of Finance Software companies. Neither of the last three was bothered about my crutches !!! Yet when I go for an interview for a job, you are able to see their faces drop, even just a little bit, you can still detect it and the result, no matter how good you are and how much experience you have, you can forget that job! Because you walk with crutches and it doesn't fit the companies image!!! I am now sick to death of going for interviews now, as the results are all the same, get through the paper sift, even the phone sift if they have one, but get to the face to face interview and forget it, you might as well not have bothered putting the suit on. I know it's wrong, you know it's wrong, but that is a fact of life that I have found out for myself and when I reflect that I used to interview folks for jobs in my last three jobs' Particularly with Mitsubishi, I couldn't care less about anything, piercings, tattoos, colour race or creed, I never even considered crutches as anything to do with an interview !!!! If they could do the job, get on with others and show that they had a good head on their shoulders for promotion prospects, they usually got the job !!! |
