I don't look at the live speed and accuracy stats while I'm typing anyway. Disabling those updates could also improve the latency of the highlighting updates.

Why I type fast, I notice the highlighting has trouble keeping up, which makes it easier to lose my place.

Performance analysis shows a fair amount of time is spent in calls within jQuery and React.

I wonder how much more performant the site would be if raw JavaScript was used to update the UI during typing without using React or jQuery.
