Typing Speed Hack

By user901701 - updated: 3 years, 7 months ago - 17 messages

Hey guys, just wanted to share a quick tip that will artificially boost your WPM by about 10-15 WPM. My total WPM went from the mid 50's up to the mid 80's in just a little over a month while if I hadn't been using this hack I think that my speed would still be around the mid 60's range.

The trick is that every once in a while, say every 10 games or so, your typing just magically clicks and you can get speeds up to 10-15 WPM higher than what you usually get. But your scores are averaged so these little boosts don't raise your score since sometimes during games you mess up horribly and your accuracy drops below 80%.

However, you can SKIP quotes that you don't like by pressing the Esc key and your score for that game won't be registered and added to your average. So during your games, type normally but only finish quotes that are above your average WPM. During games you mess up, just press Esc and go on to the next one until you get a score that is higher and higher.

I think this misses the point of this site, which should be to improve your real typing performance. It's not about the score ;)

Maybe, but I did say that it was an "artificial" boost so you of course are not actually getting faster. It just looks nice.

My teacher gives grades not based on learning but based on how fast you type... So crazy

Agreed, only betas try to compete in the leaderboards.

I thought it was a hack about really improving your speed.

who cares about the score. Please tell us how to increase the WPM

Granted, the scores are fun, but only if I know that they are my REAL scores. Faking it gets rid of all the fun for me.

Yeah, that's the kind of stuff I'm REALLY looking for. I'm trying to actually get at 200 WPM. ;-)

I have a hack too. If you deliberately type slower for higher accuracy you'll have higher WPM because the time cost for correcting an error is higher than the time gained by moving your fingers as fast as possible.

I feel personally attacked. :(

Ditto.

You can't type only what's easiest for you.

Curiously (and unfortunately) I find that slowing down helps my accuracy very little. It's something of a mystery to me.

So, who are you fooling than? Do you want to make a good impression by your high scores? I don't mind, I wanna be faster at typing and if I continue practicing that higher speed will come naturally.

Exactly! And to work on those letters, words, and phrases combo you're having a hard time.
