When my fingers hurt after too much time on the keyboard, I... do stretching exercises. Stretch open, with fingers apart, then close tight with fingers balled as fist. Sometimes add an extra 'step' bending fingers tightly at middle knuckles.

What really helped me improve my typing speed is... simply typing on a regular basis. When not, I lose some speed, but seem able to retain the habit of good accuracy.
